Google said because of those new EU regs I must let y'all know that this blog will collect "cookies" and that they even "helpfully" supplied a notice on my page.. :sigh:<br />
Actually, I found no notice... but it gets worse! You even have to give *permission* but there's no field that I've found, available to give it in!<br />
Maybe it only appears to visitors..<br />
<br />
Frankly, I don't want to have to collect your cookies unless I'm forced to. I know it makes browsing easier and all, but , you know, I don't like anything invasive, even a tiny little bit.<br />
Even so, if anyone visiting finds a notice and there's a field to click "OK" in , or, for that matter, "fugettaboutit", please leave a comment here so I know it's working OK.<br />
OK? Thanks a million!<br />

After m y extended stay in the hospital I have started to feel up to posting again . TYping is still extremely difficult but I hsve lot of extremely rare tapes to post.<br />
I have decided against scans in the future because it's too easy to simply edit or even make up a cover. Not counting the covers that get copied by other folks and sold as originals. I won't go into detail about my experience with that.. but from now on I am going to post digital photographs.<br />
Currently I am planning to post the rest of my Zappa tapes.. all first or second editions, and then myt FGleetwood Mac tapes.. the pre 1977 ones, that is. There's very little collectible or desirable in the Buck Nicks and newer era, except for their pre-Mac solo album and various radio interview reel to reels..<br />
So stay tooned!Doccus Rockus Maximushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11946174462883827539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6273385712458257364.post-32699081457016383692016-12-28T10:35:00.000-08:002017-11-09T12:12:08.525-08:00Time for some new postsIt's been a while since I've updated this blog.. in part because I've been trying to decide on what approach to use.. scans or photographs, as<span style="font-size: large;"> </span>well as whether to add to previous posts or start fresh.<br />
The decision I reaced is to do all three .. scans , photos, and start fresh.<br />
So for starters I'm goiing to post scans and photos of the first section of my Zappa collection.. next comes the Bizarre/Discreet/Reprise releases, then the CBS/Polydor/Zappa issues. . My collection does not include any posthumous releases. Perhapsthe Zappa estate is releasing them as he would have wished, perhaps not, but I suspect not. If you examine his last releases before he passed away, you can see that he had abandoned the "offensive" titles and covers in favor of a far more restrained presentation.. which I found rather appealing, actually...<br />
However, back to the first section of my collection, which is while he was with Verve/MGM:<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Freak Out:</span> The first Zappa Verve cassette rel;ease I ever obtained .. seems to be a Record club of America copy.. that's the only ones of Freak Out I have ever seen, actually. <br />
Although cassettes had only been available for 2 years before Frank left MGM, the RCoA still had plenty of stock left over so they were always included in the list one could select their 8 or 10 "one cent" cassettes, up until probably 1972.<br />

The pressings (tapings?) were generally shoddy, as well as the label print, which was stamped on the plastic shell directly from day one...<br />
I have, actually, never seen a genuine AmpexVerve release of Freak Out, although there must surely be some copies in existence. I'm always looking to see if one turns up. Especially a Canadian one, since all the Ampex cassettes here came in J-card releases.. even those imported from the US...<br />
I'll post the j-cards later on - they look really nice , seeing as they were designed and printed professionally by a tpp level printer whoi does album covers professionally... I use them instead , and seal the snapcases in a ziploc so they don't get damaged or worn...<br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Absolutely Free & Lumpy Gravy (US):</span></span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;">The two issues I don't have.. anymore, although I still have scans to post. I did lose a lot of tapes that were in the boot of my car before it got .. er... borrowed. If anyone sees either copy on verve I'd appreciate hearing from you..!</span><br />

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Lumpy Gravy (UK version)</span><br />
I did manage to obtain a British version.. I have no idea if he was more popular in the U.K. in the 60s<br />
.. certainly he got more press, since I run into quite a bit more newsreel footage from the UK, on Youtube , and the like. I think this is an early 70s issue, however, since it looks identical to the Polydor/Track "Who" cassettes from 71 with the black spine..<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v480QcMYQTg/WCTkqerAFaI/AAAAAAAADwQ/jtbpYxlw6Yw_3YnIFB1fgA95ybIlv9rDACK4B/s1600/3%255D%2BLumpy%2BUK%2Bsleeve.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="197" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v480QcMYQTg/WCTkqerAFaI/AAAAAAAADwQ/jtbpYxlw6Yw_3YnIFB1fgA95ybIlv9rDACK4B/s320/3%255D%2BLumpy%2BUK%2Bsleeve.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gYeiTXpakkk/WCTkudxlkhI/AAAAAAAADwY/fDUGWUjFBs0lgtFl6H44leIH7zTMfWeqQCK4B/s1600/3%255D%2BLumpy%2BUK%2Btapes.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gYeiTXpakkk/WCTkudxlkhI/AAAAAAAADwY/fDUGWUjFBs0lgtFl6H44leIH7zTMfWeqQCK4B/s200/3%255D%2BLumpy%2BUK%2Btapes.jpg" width="148" /></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">We're Only In It For The Money</span><br />
I was going to say that these were hard to find, but, hey,. ALL of them have been insanely hard to locate..<br />
I've quit collecting four or so timesin the past, well, this is, I suppose, number 4, and each time just reaquiring what I had before gets harder, although there's no way I would even want to, at this stage. The last collection was just too large.<br />
This time I've cut everything except cassettes.. I have some really rare and desirable 8 tracks such as Harrison's Wonderwall music, etc. But no way am I getting more..<br />
The Zappa original MGM releases, on cassette, , however, have proven to be the most difficult to source I've ever come across.<br />
I'm always surprised to locate one, then..<br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Ruben & The Jets</span><br />
The previous tapes have had their scans cleaned up to a small degree, since the outer box label was often not always in the best condition..<br />
This one, and the one that follow, however, didn;'t need a thing. I rarely see snapcases in such a good condition as these two were. Amazing!<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Mothermania:</span><br />
Got this one same time as the Ruben and the Jets.. what a score! These are all so steenkin rare that I NEVER expected to find them..<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">The ***** of the Mothers </span><br />
Why they decided to create such an unlistable title for this tape confounds me. Unlike Mothermania, this wasn't an approved compilation, but Verve owned the rights for all his pre 1969 material, so I guess they could create whatever titles and artwork they wanted. I suppose they were trying to create a "Zappa-esque" cover. Didn't wash. IMHO.<br />

Health reasons, plus I discovered I had been remiss in maintaining my picture database fees, so I literally have no more room to upload any art (although I'll check that out)
I am going to try to weed through removing any duplicates because I have several hundred new scans of 1968-71 tapes
Cheers! Doc<br />

And that was written LAST year!! Now I have almost entirely finished all my collecting, having every mint first issue of Beatles / Zappa & The Mothers / Fleetwood Mac, etc so soon as I can I'll refresh the uploads...<br />

Some of these are actually what the cassette cover *would probably* look like if I could find a copy. In order to make life interesting, I will leave it up to you to guess which they are ;-)<br />
More to follow!Doccus Rockus Maximushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11946174462883827539noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6273385712458257364.post-58740588709446327162013-09-03T13:05:00.000-07:002013-09-03T13:06:19.071-07:00Some new scans are coming, soonAfter this seriously extended absence, due to just plain lousy health issues, I really feel it is time to take the rest of the tapes I currrently have and post the scans. Because the act of sorting into labels, and leaving well thought out comments and retrospectives takes a large part of the time, I will (mostly) just post the scans, and the categories, adding the comments and sorting them out after..<br />
Thank you...Doccus Rockus Maximushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11946174462883827539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6273385712458257364.post-11784760602725351482013-02-25T00:40:00.001-08:002013-06-07T16:50:40.118-07:00I'm Back!!! For real this time...Finally, after 3 months (edit.. try SIX months) with no internet, I have a connection again... ( I thought I had, but it took me another 3 months before I got service again ) Unfortunately, It is through he previous management of the RV park I moved into three months ago, and he finally fixed the access just now, right before getting canned.. Since I don't know if I will still have access after he's left, this may only last a week ;-(..<br />
Let's hope it last longer...<br />
Meanwhile I will try to update and add to my posts here very soon...<br />
<br />
I AM FOR REAL BACK NOW!!!!!Doccus Rockus Maximushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11946174462883827539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6273385712458257364.post-14758677357966324732012-12-30T17:58:00.007-08:002014-04-25T09:59:56.743-07:00Recently added:NOTICE TO EVERYBODY.... You may have noticed entries have slowed down lately.. one reason is that I am undergoing a renovation and cleanup where I live..<br />
As part of this, there will be no entries anymore (barring a few late last minute ones) for about a month (estimated) as my computer will be disconnected, and all my hardware and components moved into temporary storage..<br />
Once this is done, I will be able to add all those entries I have been wanting to, including the full set of mint first issue Beatles cassettes, and some so rare they are purported to not exist at all, according to the "experts"<br />

Finally.........<br />
I have been ahead of the "curve" all my life.. essentially, any time I develop a serious interest in something, it's popularity blows worldwide about 2 to 3 years later.. i have a mental block giving examples (as itr has been very painfil and frustrating) and I DONT want to go over this painful sh*t again, but hey, get in now, with cassettes , 2 to 3 years they're not gonna be cheap no more, basically going where reel to reels have gone (80 - 300 $ apiece) that'sa just too much for a tape, y'think?<br />
<br />

I missed out several times in the past, trying to obtain one.. one sold for over $120.00, and the other was in a lot of all 5 of the first issues.. but this is the very first one, period that they ever issued..<br />
Most of the cassettes that came out later, were 2 tone color only, until 1968, but in 1967, the Beatrles warranted a full color sleeve.<br />
I had given up on being able to ever post a scan of this one, but thanks to<br />
Alex, at <a href="http://www.spiralarchive.com/spiral_nav/spiral_home.htm" target="_blank">Spiral Archive Records</a> the current owner of this tape before it (just now) has changed hands again, who submitted some excellent scans for this blog, I am able to show you a good copy of , as I stated earlier, the VERY FIRST EMI Beatles cassette, and possibly one of the very first cassettes ever issued. THANKS ALEX!!!!!!!!<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZfaVKQy1Rmw/UIy1jPADvPI/AAAAAAAADCI/JZ1T5fSNstU/s1600/Best+of+Fleetwood+Mac+1972+Reprise+cassette+liner+master.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="386" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZfaVKQy1Rmw/UIy1jPADvPI/AAAAAAAADCI/JZ1T5fSNstU/s400/Best+of+Fleetwood+Mac+1972+Reprise+cassette+liner+master.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is an astounding album.. and it is such a shame that it is the only one that has NEVER been reissued on CD. Nor have the two standout tracks on it, one of which is the studio rendition of "World In Harmony" Although other takes have since come out, this is by far the best one.. The second is "Purple Dancer".. and the back story is pretty much the same.. other takes have surfaced.. mostly live.. but this is the superior one by far. Both of these came out only on singles, until the appeared on this German compilation in 1972..<br />
I got lucky finding a pristine tape source.. <a href="http://www.multiupload.nl/O7YQCW03XT" target="_blank">Judge for yourself</a> if you don't think it is the under-appreciated gem I think it is. As it is out of print in any format, and at this late stage, likely to remain that way, I don't expect many chances to hear it come up...Doccus Rockus Maximushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11946174462883827539noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6273385712458257364.post-87308764945240608262012-10-24T19:47:00.001-07:002012-10-24T19:49:01.893-07:00A New sister blog, for Vinyl, is coming soon..Yup.. after i discovered just how HARD it was to find artwork for so many of my older blues LP's,, most of which are B.B. King "United" issues etc, I went and scanned them myself.. a whole lot of work too, as to properly scan an LP on a typical scanner requires 4 scans per side, which then need to be "puzzled" together..<br />
I will post the link here when it is up....Doccus Rockus Maximushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11946174462883827539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6273385712458257364.post-61154441194956394722012-09-08T16:39:00.000-07:002012-09-13T14:22:30.864-07:00A Steve ~Miller section..OK I'm nearly moved, and in the mneantime I've managed to scan all the Steve Miller cassettes<br />
I was dumbfounded when I ran into, on two seperate occasions, absolute first edition Steve Miller cassettes, and in mint shape.. I never thought i would ever see any of these, ever, never mind all of them..<br />
<span style="text-align: center;">Boy was I nervous taking them out of the housings to scan them.. as clearly they had never been even opened before...!</span><br />
So first.. in order of cassette issue numbers:<br />
Children Of The Future<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0LbfyMEYk3A/UFJJ1YOtSJI/AAAAAAAAC-4/W2NyVM5tRwk/s1600/Children+Of+The+Future.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0LbfyMEYk3A/UFJJ1YOtSJI/AAAAAAAAC-4/W2NyVM5tRwk/s400/Children+Of+The+Future.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next is Sailor:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1-yUViqokK4/UFJLAHwadCI/AAAAAAAAC_A/qXo_WCDbX78/s1600/Sailor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1-yUViqokK4/UFJLAHwadCI/AAAAAAAAC_A/qXo_WCDbX78/s400/Sailor.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next is Brave New World:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CWgIQ-Wq83s/UFJLQ3AVgxI/AAAAAAAAC_I/KWDLLbWe_Xw/s1600/Brave+New+World.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CWgIQ-Wq83s/UFJLQ3AVgxI/AAAAAAAAC_I/KWDLLbWe_Xw/s400/Brave+New+World.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next is Your Saving Grace (a favorite of mine):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rJBg9m53Gzo/UFJLemDOIhI/AAAAAAAAC_U/DeJ4oncoFkE/s1600/Your+Saving+Grace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rJBg9m53Gzo/UFJLemDOIhI/AAAAAAAAC_U/DeJ4oncoFkE/s400/Your+Saving+Grace.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And their fifth one, called, amazingly enough, Number 5:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7keuSdEqLH0/UFJLr7JxLsI/AAAAAAAAC_c/VGqC81plCmk/s1600/No+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="387" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7keuSdEqLH0/UFJLr7JxLsI/AAAAAAAAC_c/VGqC81plCmk/s400/No+5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After I had found these, I really doubted I'd ever manage to fill out the collection with the next5 two, as they're rare as hen's teeth.. Yet within a month I ran into them too...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Rock Love:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_CJyOXuaa5s/UFJMLykSUaI/AAAAAAAAC_k/fE1tQ-dszvE/s1600/Rock+love.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="387" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_CJyOXuaa5s/UFJMLykSUaI/AAAAAAAAC_k/fE1tQ-dszvE/s400/Rock+love.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And Journey From Eden..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HIjJFl_VIDk/UFJMV5v8T1I/AAAAAAAAC_s/Tn5HQIzZ7KE/s1600/journey+from+eden.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="391" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HIjJFl_VIDk/UFJMV5v8T1I/AAAAAAAAC_s/Tn5HQIzZ7KE/s400/journey+from+eden.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Amazing, Eh?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next one is "The Joker".. I found a mint first edition, but it hasn't arrived in the mail yet...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, Onwards to</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Fly Like An Eagle, which is the one everybody knows, and lots of less informed folks thought was his first album!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9qc1hrD1cKc/UEvW9Ws5mQI/AAAAAAAAC-k/gh8HDKIcg00/s1600/steve+miller.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="387" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9qc1hrD1cKc/UEvW9Ws5mQI/AAAAAAAAC-k/gh8HDKIcg00/s400/steve+miller.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Back in 1972, there was a compilation that came out, and was still in print when Fly Like An Eagle came out.. in fact, it was the only way to hear his older stuff, as they were all out of print:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the compilation..Anthology:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The box it came in:<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cbZtpoeZv10/UFJNlJj7WoI/AAAAAAAAC_0/sJ5-kmb9VKA/s1600/Anthology+box.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cbZtpoeZv10/UFJNlJj7WoI/AAAAAAAAC_0/sJ5-kmb9VKA/s320/Anthology+box.jpg" width="209" /></a></div>

<br />
This first one is interestring, in that it's an Ampex tape, but nowhere does it say so.. It simply says RCA/Dunhill, which is a strange combination, as Dunhill was an ABC subsidiary..<br />
It must be one of the very earliest RCA tapes made though..<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zG3robynfwQ/T-qpLvRtscI/AAAAAAAAC8o/x9feALZ-xAQ/s1600/Scan+10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zG3robynfwQ/T-qpLvRtscI/AAAAAAAAC8o/x9feALZ-xAQ/s400/Scan+10.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's all the cassettes, wher5e you can see that the John Philips tape is in fact identical in man ufacture to the Ampex's...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JK1qbItc7BU/T-qpRCXj3mI/AAAAAAAAC8w/zxj4-_4KqIY/s1600/Scan+11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JK1qbItc7BU/T-qpRCXj3mI/AAAAAAAAC8w/zxj4-_4KqIY/s400/Scan+11.jpg" width="313" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a more normal Ampex.. these are Canadian ones , however, so they're EXTREMELY rare..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
95% of ALL the Ampex tapes you will ever see, will be American ones, as Canada had (and still has) a much smaller population than the US (about 10%, or at the time, 20 million)..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and so , naturally, far fewer tapes were made here...</div>
<br />

<br /></div>
I'll get to the rest of the Humble Pie tapes on Monday.. tomorrow's rest day...
These first ones are really cool though.. not exactly "Promo" tapes, they're really intended only for the engineers, producers, and marketing guys to take out of the studio with them.. meaning there's WAY less copies of them ever made.. typically a dozen or so...
Pretty cool too, as it was for the best compilation of Humble Pie stuff ever issued..It was likely in the planning stages while Steve was still alive too , as it came out a little over 2 years after his death. (I'd hate to think it was a tactless cash-in on his tragic death)<br />

FLEETWOOD BLACK MAGIC WOMAN EPICI have been looking for the cassete of this for some long time.. SOMEONE out there must either have one, or know someone who has one. Here's a shot of the 8 track, which is currently for sale on ebay.. I don't have or want the 8 track, but the cassette..<br />
If you have ever seen one and can dig it up, I'll give a generous "finders fee"<br />

<br />
Well.. i got my Ogden's and.. not impressed.. all except one of the "new previously unreleased" rarities are simply renamed tracks .. for example.. "Bun in the oven" (previously unreleased) is simply the mono single issue of "rollin over".. and all the others are the same.. and all save one have been released before.. but the SHADIE$T track on it, is the "14 Ogden's Nut Gone Flake (Alternate Take - Phased Mix - Stereo)" which is.. get this.. the mono single version of that track.. simply REVERSED..<br />
It's a con folks.. i'm really disappointed!<br />
<br />
The only nice thing is the packaging...<br />

I'm going to bump the previous post of the Canadian tapes down a bit.. so that first I can start, at... where else, but the beginning.. with the very first Beatles tapes ever issued by Capitol, in 1968 and 1969:<br />
These are all very first issues... However, although for the first 3 tapes I've included scans of the tapes too, mostly I will be not necessarily be matching the sleeves with the tape labels, as Capitol didn't issue sleeves and tapes cassettes concurrently.. that is, changes in the design of the sleeve were not always accompanied by changes in the tape housing / labels.. which followed a completely independent schedule:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NjT73_7pjkU/T9bFNjB-LRI/AAAAAAAAC0s/U4WvU23a1qg/s1600/Meet+the+Beatles+1st+Issue+cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NjT73_7pjkU/T9bFNjB-LRI/AAAAAAAAC0s/U4WvU23a1qg/s400/Meet+the+Beatles+1st+Issue+cover.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A first issue "Meet The Beatles"</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y-cfL10Fl2Q/T9bFV0V8OyI/AAAAAAAAC04/VMWTOYsEMEI/s1600/Second+album+1st+Issue+cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y-cfL10Fl2Q/T9bFV0V8OyI/AAAAAAAAC04/VMWTOYsEMEI/s400/Second+album+1st+Issue+cover.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This "Second Album" , although a first issue, is a slightly later style (you can tell by the larger "Capitol" oval on the spine) than the other two, as it was issued after the first batch of albums.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Capitol did not issue all the Beatles' albums at the same time , choosing instead to try out whether cassettes would 'catch on' by issuing only a few in 1968.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next is an album that was finally available on Capitol in the US, comprised mostly of their debut album "Please Please Me". It came out so much later , in 1965, because Vee-Jay had previously had manufacture & distribution rights. "Introducing The Beatles didn't sell, though, even though they tried several repackagings..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When Capitol obtained the rights, they wasted no time issuing it in cut back form.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The matching first issue tape housings.. notice that nowhere is the word "Stereo" </div>
The very first Beatles cassettes had no "bars" .. although as they introduced more of the Beatles catalog, each tape got the then current Capitol design, which is why the first issues of all of them can appear so different.. the "Second Album," above is a good example of this...even though it came out only 6 months later than the first 6 releases, the design had already changed slightly..<br />
<br />
All of these tapes had paper labels, which continued up to the beginning of 1971, when they switched to printing on the housings directly.. the tape housing changes, however, were carried out independently of any changes in the sleeves..<br />
These three below also were the very first format, meaning they were part of the first releases of beatles' cassettes by Capitol I think they released maybe half the whole catalog.. a good way to tell is by looking at the Capitol Oval onthe spine, that I mentioned earlier.. it's noticeably smaller than later ones...<br />
ALl three of the cassettes below are very first issues from 1968...<br />

More later...<br />
========================================================================<br />
Next is a recent acquisition.. I really didn't know what I had here, until it arrived..<br />
There appears to be NO record of this variant, anywhere in the world, online or otherwise.<br />
It certainly is the first one *I've * ever seen..<br />
It's the 1968 hardshell United Artists "A Hard Day's Night" (K-9006)<br />
except it does NOT have the boxed logo, has the peculiar "liberty" black and white sandwiched cassette housing, and has a typo for sides one and two..that is, the tracks for side one are listed on side two, on the cassette housing (but not the case).. side "1" lists the tracks for side two, and side "2" lists the tracks for side one.. upon playing the tape, i found that the tracks are correct, that is , side one starts out with "A Hard Day's Night".. I have NEVER seen, or heard about, another like this..<br />
Any Beatle experts out there? Have any of you?<br />
Anyways, here it is..:<br />

So here, are a few Canadian pressings.. we were lucky here to get the Beatles before much of the rest of the world, and in True Stereo, no less.....<br />
so here goes.. These are later issues, but even so, I have to say, the color balance and artistic lack of clutter, makes these some of the most attractive sleeves I have ever seen.. plus the bonus of exceptionally GOOD sound.. hey if you ever see these in your local shop, grab them FAST!<br />
<br />
The Beatles' Story: and what a nice clean design, eh?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yRPO1Q84-mk/T8meU_VfnJI/AAAAAAAACxc/dU6TOchQbDA/s1600/canada3+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yRPO1Q84-mk/T8meU_VfnJI/AAAAAAAACxc/dU6TOchQbDA/s320/canada3+copy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Completely UNIQUE to CANADA.. this album NEVER got issued anywhere else in the world on cassette, ever, and the closest it ever even got on cassette was when it was chosen to be the first release, by Capitol, on the DAT format, but then canceled, and therefore this is the BEST sound you will EVER get for this album, right here (if you can even find a copy, they're rare as hen's teeth even in Canada!), which is why the "Good Doctor" (Ebbets) went out of his way to rip any and all Canadian albums<br />
<br />
The famous Y&T album (Trunk, naturally ...;-)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7gpV7BoTLjQ/T8medm0DLOI/AAAAAAAACxk/vI5OfXv18Oc/s1600/Canada1+Yesterday+and+Today+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7gpV7BoTLjQ/T8medm0DLOI/AAAAAAAACxk/vI5OfXv18Oc/s320/Canada1+Yesterday+and+Today+copy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Twist and Shout.. another entirely unique to Canada album...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7iuogX4EP2Y/T8meie_hpTI/AAAAAAAACxs/DCE3Yc0ouPc/s1600/canada4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7iuogX4EP2Y/T8meie_hpTI/AAAAAAAACxs/DCE3Yc0ouPc/s320/canada4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And what has to be a serious surprise for any Beatles fan who wants to hear them live.. I find it a miracle of audio engineering <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SB3usGCciEU/T8menKK66RI/AAAAAAAACx0/YuyoLQitNII/s1600/canada2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SB3usGCciEU/T8menKK66RI/AAAAAAAACx0/YuyoLQitNII/s320/canada2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Sooo aint these jus' SWEET?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Oxz03DSknMk/T8mer7xzz0I/AAAAAAAACx8/N6wrqikZMqI/s1600/Revolver+Canadian+striped.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="314" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Oxz03DSknMk/T8mer7xzz0I/AAAAAAAACx8/N6wrqikZMqI/s320/Revolver+Canadian+striped.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Canadian cassettes weren't always the nicest looking.. here's an older issue that doesn't do nuttin' for me ;-)<br />
======================================================================<br />
<br />
Now to an amazing set of issues..<br />
Anyone who read <a href="http://cassettecoverartlib.blogspot.ca/2012/05/survey-for-yall.html" target="_blank">Mike's interview</a> earlier in this blog, must have noticed his glowing recommendations of New Zealand cassettes.. At the time I had only a very few, but I lucked into 14 Beatles ones. I have no idea of the various issues, as they seem to differ, some later ones being EMI, and some earlier ones, Apple, as opposed to the order that they were reissued time and again ...only the "Rarities" one can I date, to 1981..<br />
I did receive them in a blue "Beatles Collection" box, but unlike the US ands UK ones, where the tapes all show identical dates of issues (as they should) these NZ ones vary considerably.<br />
Where they do NOT vary, is in the astounding quality of manufacture!<br />
The cardboard is thick and solid, the printing is clear and finished with either a good semi gloss, to a very thick indeed, high gloss.. They do not appear capable being subject to wear, or fading..<br />
The cassette shells too, all have well attached paper labels, and solid shells , every one attached with screws, to facilitate repair. as you will see in the scans..<br />
I have no extra info to add, as I am not knowledgable on this subject (NZ tapes) ..<br />
I'll just list the scans:<br />

Enough for now..!<br />
==============================================================<br />
Next.. It's time for the German issues.. as opposed to the subtle coloring of the NZ tapes, above, there is absolutely NOTHING subtle about German issues.. Big over the top color schemes, Bright red and green juxtaposed where ever possible..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VZMoS6XDtb0/T9rfOmg3q5I/AAAAAAAAC54/Nb-LTp8EwZU/s1600/Beatles+Beat+DEU.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VZMoS6XDtb0/T9rfOmg3q5I/AAAAAAAAC54/Nb-LTp8EwZU/s400/Beatles+Beat+DEU.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
ahh the Beatles "Beat" .. in Germany.. "de Beat" was the thing.. all bands were "Beat" Bands</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ya!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D6xdUcjOwiA/T9rftzIngCI/AAAAAAAAC6E/nYNMk_4dnWA/s1600/MMT+HorZu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D6xdUcjOwiA/T9rftzIngCI/AAAAAAAAC6E/nYNMk_4dnWA/s400/MMT+HorZu.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The highly desirable "HorZu" issue of Magical Mystery Tour.. apparently the original cover was to subtle for the German record companies, so they designed a new cover full of clashing primary and secondary colors. Until MMT came out on CD, however, this was one of the two only albums to feature the whole of the album in true stereo (and it was since 1971), and it's thought to be the best sounding. The CD issue, was in fact, made from the master tapes from this version.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A Hard Day's Night was called something else in Germany</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-arEKQ5ab114/T9rhia8m1WI/AAAAAAAAC6M/lpIhcsVfar4/s1600/Yeah+Yeah+Yeah+DEU.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="391" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-arEKQ5ab114/T9rhia8m1WI/AAAAAAAAC6M/lpIhcsVfar4/s400/Yeah+Yeah+Yeah+DEU.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You guessed it.. "Yeah Yeah Yeah!"...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A couple of earlier German releases on the "Electrola" label.. In Germany there was Odeon, HorZu, and Odeon/EMI/Electrola, all who at various times issued Beatles albums...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1Q00zVKIBzc/T9riZHsEjJI/AAAAAAAAC6U/n1Io-EKF0Cg/s1600/Rubber+Soul+DEU.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1Q00zVKIBzc/T9riZHsEjJI/AAAAAAAAC6U/n1Io-EKF0Cg/s400/Rubber+Soul+DEU.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hg155xQOjI8/T9ribdKdpVI/AAAAAAAAC6c/BdVYpK_aEqM/s1600/Something+New+DEU.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hg155xQOjI8/T9ribdKdpVI/AAAAAAAAC6c/BdVYpK_aEqM/s400/Something+New+DEU.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And , of course, there was also "Apple":</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hQnYyNEvZho/T9rjggutJAI/AAAAAAAAC6k/djmdR1qcc4o/s1600/Yellow+Sub+DEU.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hQnYyNEvZho/T9rjggutJAI/AAAAAAAAC6k/djmdR1qcc4o/s400/Yellow+Sub+DEU.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Apparently actually *drawing* an apple was too difficult (after an "acht stein beer garden")</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
so they just *wrote* the word "Apple" instead ;-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By the time these came out, ze hangover was over.. so both DO have apples</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

In a little while I'll post the corresponding tapes for these cassettes.. better get anti-glare sunglasses for them, though ;-)</div>

I simply have no room in my tight quarters for them...<br />
This means that if i want to update my collection, and/or count how many of any I actually have.. I will have to drive (bike?) to the storage facility..........<br />

. So , until I post all my scans of the SF, this will have to do:<br />

These are very early AMPEX issues, before London USA made their own cassettes , in 1969, most record companies subbed to AMPEX, or GRT, for the actual manufacture of their tapes<br />

Several compilations.. this next one is the same as the "Pop History 14" with the green cover.. it appears that Germany has to always have special issues of any album reissues.. in fact there's some incredible releases only ever available from Germany..<br />

Here's another UK compilation.. pretty good collection too:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OiYrSXRDcj4/T6ZTHTL5SwI/AAAAAAAACZQ/40Mbx3Y-MGY/s1600/Stormy+Monday+B.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="176" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OiYrSXRDcj4/T6ZTHTL5SwI/AAAAAAAACZQ/40Mbx3Y-MGY/s400/Stormy+Monday+B.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

An early Decca comp.. came out when he'd jumped ship to Polydor..<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DDDLGQXcfBs/T6ZTMz6ryuI/AAAAAAAACZk/U8nGXyyiEaA/s1600/Thru+the+Years.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DDDLGQXcfBs/T6ZTMz6ryuI/AAAAAAAACZk/U8nGXyyiEaA/s400/Thru+the+Years.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The influential "Turning Point" album..<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ijdB8GdLILM/T6ZTPVOiu9I/AAAAAAAACZs/2S75s0LV2YM/s1600/Turning+Point+F+thick+cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ijdB8GdLILM/T6ZTPVOiu9I/AAAAAAAACZs/2S75s0LV2YM/s400/Turning+Point+F+thick+cover.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Two of the Decca "World of" series tapes<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tJT0BRPvyc4/T6ZTSCKk76I/AAAAAAAACZ0/FVGxwxvT9Xg/s1600/World+Of+Mayall+1+F.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tJT0BRPvyc4/T6ZTSCKk76I/AAAAAAAACZ0/FVGxwxvT9Xg/s400/World+Of+Mayall+1+F.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BNJnIVA1Cck/T6ZTUe0fO_I/AAAAAAAACZ8/qu_Ye1Kd0bw/s1600/World+Of+Mayall+2+F.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BNJnIVA1Cck/T6ZTUe0fO_I/AAAAAAAACZ8/qu_Ye1Kd0bw/s400/World+Of+Mayall+2+F.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've got two different copies of this next one.. the first is the proper double album, with the Studio on one side and Live on the other:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-URBB_GlbyBs/T6ZTW8VbnHI/AAAAAAAACaE/YtXkcApAPHU/s1600/ten+years+are+gone+F.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-URBB_GlbyBs/T6ZTW8VbnHI/AAAAAAAACaE/YtXkcApAPHU/s400/ten+years+are+gone+F.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And next an Italian language , German manufactured, casssette of the same album with only the live show (side 2) included, and no explanation...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bH0QRX9U4OY/T6cnt0TGE0I/AAAAAAAACbc/_lJiOy-BLM8/s1600/TenYears+Are+Gone+(Abridged).tiff" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bH0QRX9U4OY/T6cnt0TGE0I/AAAAAAAACbc/_lJiOy-BLM8/s400/TenYears+Are+Gone+(Abridged).tiff" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Phew! That took quite a lot of scanning .. more to come...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A couple of re-named reissues of the "turning point" album.. I've seen it reissued under so many different names and labels that I wonder if he was unable to retain copyright for that show..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Polydor has also been quite guilty of over re-issuing it too.. strange that they'd have dumped him in the mid 70's because his "albums didn't sell", and then after have done endless re-treads of them..</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It's billed as the largest Who collection in the world, and I don't doubt it, this guy has a collection of EVERY rare Who item ever, except ONE, which is what prompted my latest visit to his site, as I could NOT believe that I obtained something he did NOT have....<br />
However , his site, and his collection of what has to have a pieced out resale value of a MINIMUM of 15 million dollars, is up for sale.. as a lot, however.. he wants 5 Mils.. i ain't got that ;-)..<br />
But you MUST check it out.. he has what he estimates as 400 times as much as shown , in duplicates... if I had 5 large, I could probably keep the displayed collection INTACT, and make my money back, parceling out the dupes....<br />
The amount of work that has gone into this site is MIND BLOWING.. furthermore, it is so well designed , with the collector in mind, that you'll leave there wanting more!<br />
<br />
AAAAAAA+++++++++++++<br />
<br />
Go check it out!!!!!!!!!!<br />

Album download links below (Updated with a better hosing provider) :<br />
available in <a href="http://www.multiupload.nl/7IDOXDAF5A" target="_blank">LOSSLESS</a><br />

About Ronnie and Mike.. </div>

They are also collectors with *extremely* scarce tapes, that I occasionally buy from, down under, as sometimes they have dug up exactly what Ive been looking for…</div>

Mike sent me this questionaire.. I've put my answers below, anyone else have any opinions on any of these?</div>

1. What is your favourite label on cassette?</div>
<div class="p1">
……I think 60's to mid 70's Decca.. not for any particular reason.. except they're interesting, and the labels are colorful, and often the liner notes are better.. plus the era they like to favor (the mid to late 60's blues boom) interests me the most.. unfortunately, with older Decca tapes the sound is often sub-par.. for whatever reason they tend to have a bad spike in the S's and cymbals </div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
2.Do you have many NEW ZEALAND issues?</div>
<div class="p1">
. No.. Athough from what I understand, many of them do not actually show any country of manufacture.. I may have more than I think such as This: I bought this one down the road from "English Dave" (sorry if I got it wrong!)</div>

3.What do you think of NEW ZEALAND cassettes? </div>
<div class="p1">
I have not seen enough examples to be sure, but the ones I know are from NZ are sure different from most others I've seen.. (I think I actually got this one from Mike)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

what's peculiar about this one, is it has a super thick shoebox cardboard sleeve , with a dark grey back.. very different from most other sleeves..</div>

<div class="p1">
4.Do you enjoy buying Australian released cassettes? </div>
<div class="p1">
Not partticularly.. I think they're rather unattractive.. too much pink lettering on the front (any charm it may have had disappears when ALL of the tapes have the same look)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W5QSXW2e7GM/T7qJNvs39eI/AAAAAAAACo4/TGqaLIjdSAI/s1600/ummagumma1+AUS.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="197" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W5QSXW2e7GM/T7qJNvs39eI/AAAAAAAACo4/TGqaLIjdSAI/s320/ummagumma1+AUS.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="p1">
.. giving them the "old" EMI look , even when they're NOT ...think this an old tape? ..Well, let's have another look , this time at the tapes..</div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LULZef0DzgI/T7qJo8Sb1zI/AAAAAAAACpA/hA2YsDpGTGo/s1600/ummagumma+tapes.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="202" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LULZef0DzgI/T7qJo8Sb1zI/AAAAAAAACpA/hA2YsDpGTGo/s320/ummagumma+tapes.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>

.. However, the odds of finding an older album that's out of print in the rest of the world *does* seem to be higher with Aussie tapes</div>

5.Is there one tape that has given you a big thrill that you have purchased?</div>

.. which just NEVER shows up.. in fact *any* first edition issues of Freddie King is just about near impossible to find, except for those cheap compilations that always seem to show up</div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
6.What are your top 3 bands to collect?</div>
<div class="p1">
I've pretty much collected them all by now..but naturally there's still missing stuff .. but that wouldn't just be "bands" per se, but also groups of bands, such as "British Blues".. (aka Mayall, and other, mostly Decca acts, such as Savoy Brown),</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What's peculiar about this one is the sleeve is Canadian, and the tape is US made.. maybe that's how they all were here in Canada, I haven't had enough Canadian Ampex tapes to know for sure...</div>
<div class="p1">

<div class="p1">
Also Beatles related.. such as original Apples.. although I'm still trying to complete my First edition beatles collection.. the one I'm actively seeking right now is the George Harrison "Wonderwall Music" on the original Apple cassette.. I know it exists, as I used to own one.. however, the premier Beatles related cassette collecting site that I know of, claims that they never issued it on cassette. Since I know 100% for sure that it did exist, i am still looking - there's even a catalog number attached to it - (I no longer remember if mine had a paper label, but it was DEFINITELY a first run Apple, with a foldover sleeve listing other cassettes) Here's his other concurrent solo album...</div>

The third major group is a loose collection of all the "Immediate" series artists, on as early an issue of cassettes I can find. Because I've been collecting for so long, I can remember 30 years back, when some tapes were MUCH easier to find..</div>
<div class="p1">
Here's a NEMS (yup, Epstein's NEMS) Immediate from the 70's when after going into receivership in 1970, Immediate got bought out by North End Music Services, who attempted to reissue the catalog.. before, themselves, going bust!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
.. that would include the original Immediates.. although there were so very few of them, that most people don't even know they existed at all.. The main source of them back them was on a very limited issue 1973 Reissue series in Canada only, on Daffodil/Capitol records, but I think GRT (General Records and Tapes) also issued some Immediate albums.. back then it was common for labels to outsource tape manufacture to a dedicated "Tape and Record" manufacturing company, such as Ampex, GRT, or Quality…</div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
7.Are you more of a fan of paper label tapes? </div>
<div class="p1">
Not Per Se.. paper labels for the sake of themselves is pretty dumb.. especially when you consider that tapes exhibiting them almost ALWAYS have inferior sound, as they tend to exist only on older tapes.. Paper labels are *only* an additional way of dating tapes, nothing more.. having said that, if one is trying to collect early editions, (as any completist would) they will tend to be more prevelant..</div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
8.Do you buy cassettes simply for the covers?</div>
<div class="p1">
A truly collectible tape, cannot consist of only one factor.. Collectors are, to a large extent, guardians of popular culture.. and the historical significance of a tape must come into play.. as well, the music must have some value..sometimes the art on the tape outweighs any other factor , however, so to that extent, yes.. but it is not common.. however, certain covers haver more appeal than others.. Certainly a garish, ugly, or otherwise off-putting cover will detract immensely from a tape's desireability…</div>

<div class="p2">
1. What is your favourite label on cassette?</div>
<div class="p2">
I really have a love affair with Philips and Dunhill from the UK,Ampex from the USA, Arcade from Germany and Rainbow, Festival and the early EMI labels from Australia . The early Festival labels are historically important to Austrlai as it was one label that produced so mnay great cassettes from some of not only Aussies best, but from other great bands. Most of the Festival records early pressings were label labels, however they ventured into the nornmal plastic casing after that. The early EMI editions also came with the paper labels and the early runs (especially AC/DC) came in stock standard red bordered cases. Truly beautiful if you can find them in MINT condition.<br />
<br />
(Doc's edit .. Agreed on the FESTIVAL tapes.. wudda monster label.. if it was rare or OOP it would still be on Festival! And of course, being in North America, I have hundreds of AMPEX)<br />

2.Do you have many NEW ZEALAND issues?\</div>
<div class="p1">

<div class="p3">
Thousands! Living 3 and half hours from the land of the long whtite cloud, it is relativley easy to find rare and hard to get tapes from NZ. I can safely say that they produced some of the best covers in the business! Ac/dc, Iron Maiden etc... all the early releases came with some amazing unique sleeves! NZ pressings are quite sort after by collectors and usually when I get these in my store, are snapped up by collectors, simply becuase thre are not many of them around in good nick.<br />
<br />
(Doc's edit.. so considering that I live on the other side of the world, I should count myself lucky I've even got a couple!)</div>

See comments in Question 2, however just to elaborate, I find NZ pressings have a thicker insert, bigger cases and almsot always come with a paper sleeve. Some have different artwork to other releases in the world and are highly collectable. Look at U2'S one Tree Hill cassingle for example, I have seen this change hands for over $500.00!!!</div>
<div class="p7">
------ Doc's new edit: hey well, I just bought 13 original NZ issues for such a good deal that I'm hoping he sends them at all, as I don't believe you can buy 13 first issue New Zealand beatles for $100, unless the guy's an , er , well desperate..<br />

Absolutley and shoot me for being bias, however I believe the Aussies were masters at cassette manufacturing. A lot of the early released tapes from Australia are very sought after with the paper labels and a lot of stuff is still only availbale on this format. We had some really cool labels back in the day including......Powderworks, Astor, Deluxe, et al but to name a few. Some of the early Buddy Holly and Bill Haley releases on the Astor lable are still sort after to this day. Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, AC/DC and co always looked cool back on cassette in the 70's and 80's.</div>
